Radiohead in Rainbows

Saturday was one of those days that any radiohead fan would have had trouble sleeping the night before. I can’t include myself in that list, primarily due to a healthy concoction of pints baby guiness’ (guini?) and silver bullets (Thanks Paddy!) the night before, and so it was with a heavy lids and even heavier head that i was roused by a scorching sun blasting though my so-called curtains.

So as we all know now, it was the perfect day for an outdoor gig! In our case, a fairly complex plan of action was called for to ensure that all guilty parties were assembled in or around the right time and place for some pre-gig fun. There was a theoretical group of 8 of us who were to head up to a mate Roisin’s not-so humble abode in Malahide for a BBQ and drinks. Kudos goes out to Roisin at this point, who very graciously permitted myself and Dan to show up with 6 of our smelly friends without so much as asking what area code they resided in or whether they would be bringing anything to the table other than their hungry, thirsty selves.

Eventually a troupe consisting of myself, Dan, Wigs, Clem and Amel was assembled and we piled onto a dart at about 1pm. Along the way we picked up Fi and Ignazio-a friend of mine from work. Mike, the supposed 8th member of the group was, as usual, not to be heard from. I still amaze myself that I find this surprising even after 6 or 7 years…

  • Joe Satriani

Woohoo, Im off to Joe Satriani tonight!

For those of you who don’t know him, he is an electric guitar user, abuser and maestro. There are few people in the world who can actually extract juices from an instrument, but he is one of them and he’s playing in Vicar Street tonight at 7:30pm.I’m heading in with a few lads from work to view this guitar orgy first hand.

    Give it to me Joe..

Suffice to say, ill probably come home and break my guitar into pieces because Ill never be that good. :(

Check out his myspace here for tracks etc.

So yeah, I was on my way up to band practice yesterday with Dan and it was a stonker of a day so we decided to get ice creams. Now I’ve always been a massive loop the loop fan, surpassed only by my love of feasts (in particular mint feasts) but since it was so hot out I vouched for the more refreshing option of a tried and tested loop the loop.

I’m sure this isn’t groundbreaking news to most of you but I just have bring to light the crime that is todays loop the loops. The loop the loops I remember were rectangular, and chunky and a solid eat! now, they have slowly but surely whittled them down to rocket-shaped piss-takes of their former selves. Not only that, but they are generally narrower and the sections of ice cream seem to have been compressed together even more than usual to make it even smaller still.

So two fingers to HB for being greedy bastards. Bring back the old ones!

If you have recently been vexed by shrinking confectionary, please, let us know!

Any rant is a good rant.

    :D

  • Just to let you know..

..in case you hadnt already copped it, the letter below was an April Fools! GOTCHA. :)

We never got a letter, but we DID have someone call around in the early hours when the party was in full swing, although none of us can remember who answered the door, who it was or what they said, so they may as well not have come round at all!

Did YOU answer the door to a random pissed off stranger that night??

If so, leave a comment so we can piece this puzzle together! :)

    Cha Che!

  • Some Bad News…

Hey all, just thought id share this letter we received the other day with you… Looks like there will be no more parties in Gaffbhala.. :(

    —-

To the residents of no. __ Glenageary Park,

I am writing on behalf of your immediate neighbours of Glenageary Park road to formally complain about the behaviour witnessed over the last few months in and around your place of residence.

I have received numerous complaints from residents of Glenageary Park of late night parties with music of excessive, and frankly unacceptable levels, crowds of people coming and going from the premises at all hours of the night, and general rowdy behaviour which shows a severe lack of respect or consideration for the other residents of the street. One incident in particular was on the night of Good Friday, the 21st March, on which a resident of Glenageary Park who shall remain unnamed, was forced to call over to the house to request that the music be turned down, to be greeted by a horde of drunken party goers.

The road you live on is in a quiet neighbourhood comprising mainly of middle-age to elderly residents, who have never had to put up with such loutish behaviour in the past. Upon speaking with these people personally, it is clear to me that you made no effort to introduce yourselves to the neighbourhood, or to show an ounce of respect for the people who were here before you.

I strongly advise that the next time you plan to throw a party of any size, that you make it know to your neighbours, and accept with good grace should they inform you that they may not be happy with the idea.

Failure to respect the wishes of your neighbours in future the will result in the involvement of the Gardai.

    Sincerely,

    <name removed>
